National Emergency Briefing

JOIN US: Friday 10th July, 7 - 9 PM, Little Baddow Memorial Hall

On 10 July, community benefit society Common Green, in collaboration the Danbury Society, the Danbury churches and other groups, will be screening the ‘People’s Emergency Briefing’ in the village (venue tbc). Our MP and councillors will be attending but the film is essential viewing for all, elected or not, and is being shown up and down the country. It is a public information film that honestly briefs the UK on the climate and nature crisis and how it will impact our lives, from our national security to our food supply. Common Green director Mary Huntington, who has already seen the film, says: “It transcends politics and calls for a science-led national emergency response showing the same leadership and determination from government as that shown in WW2. We owe this to our children and grandchildren who will see their lives changed in ways we cannot imagine if action is not taken.“

The film builds on a National Emergency Briefing (www.nebriefing.org) held in Westminster last year. An invited audience of 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and media heard from 10 of the UK’s leading experts. Chaired by Professor Mike Berners-Lee, they gave a concise, high-level and unfiltered briefing on the interconnected crisis – including threats to food supply, health and national security.

With footage from the event plus reactions from the public and some familiar faces, the film presents the national implications of climate and nature breakdown – with credible, positive responses – in an accessible account designed for community screenings. It is intended that each one be followed by a structured discussion to allow people to process what they have heard and find ways to engage positively around solutions in their community.

The initiative has the support of the National Trust, the RSPB, faith groups, the Royal Meteorological Society, the Royal Society of Biology and more.

The NEB say: “This crisis is more serious and immediate than many understand. There is strong evidence that bold, urgent action will improve lives and livelihoods, but the window of opportunity is narrowing as we delay.”
